After you clean up the glass on the floor you will want to fix your window, the difficulty of fixing a window can vary from a window to window, but steel casement windows are tricky to fix. To fix this kind of window you will need the following things: latex glazing putty, pliers, heat gun, flexible putty knife, a 2.5 cm or 5 cm stiff steel putty knife and a flathead screwdriver.
Before you fix the window make sure that you have safety equipment, this means that you should have safety goggles and gloves. When you are fixing your steel casement window take measurements of the glass pane that you are going to replace, when getting glass make sure that you get a glass pane that is 0.32 cm shorter on both length and width, this will allow the glass to expand and shrink during the different seasons of year.
First clean the window, this means that you must use the heat gun to warm up the old putty and then use the putty knife to remove the old putty. After that, use the putty knife or the screwdriver to remove spring clips, the last part of cleaning the window is to remove the remaining glazing putty, glass shards or spring clips.
Apply a 0.16 cm thick layer of putty between the edge of glass and window sash, after this gently press the edges of the glass pane, now position the glass pane until you have a gap of 0.16 cm between every side of glass pane. Place two spring clips on every side of the glass pane, now push every spring clip into window sash, you can use the screwdriver to do this. Use some of the putty to make a rope, place this rope on every side of the window and apply pressure, now use the putty knife to clean the putty you don’t need.
